Midway District

Thank you for your interest in volunteering to work with 4-H members!  Our 4-H program relies on volunteers to accomplish our Positive Youth Development goals.  As part of our commitment to these goals is the desire to provide a safe environment for learning.  To help accomplish that, Kansas 4-H screens volunteers who work directly with youth.  As a potential volunteer, we ask you to complete our screening process.  To start the process, please complete the Kansas 4-H Volunteer Service Application PDF Version or online application, along with the Volunteer Interest Survey and return it to the Extension Office.

In addition to the Kansas 4-H Volunteer Service Application, we will ask you to take part in an interview and complete an Orientation to Kansas 4-H.  The Orientation Training Course can be found through https://ks.4honline.com/. Additional steps of the process include: checking your references and a  background check.

The National Criminal Background Check Information and Permission form - click here to access the website will need to be completed.  The process is online using a commercial vendor and their secure website and server.  The results from both steps will be sent to our State 4-H Office and communicated to our local office.  The check is being conducted by Validity Screening Solutions, a Kansas Company who provides background checks to the State of Kansas, Kansas State University and many volunteer organizations.  Due to changes with DCF, the DCF background check is no longer a required step in the registered volunteer process for 4-H volunteers. This change also reflects current best practices from the National Mentoring Partnership, the American Camp Association, the National Alliance for Youth Sports, the North Central 4-H Volunteer Development group, and other Kansas University policies.

Once all these steps are complete and no problems or concerns are found, your name will be presented to the local Extension Board for approval and appointment as a 4-H volunteer for our program.

The main roles for local volunteers are Community Club Leader, Project Leader or Activity Leader.  There are many more roles for volunteers, just check with us at the Extension Office for more information.

Kansas 4-H Volunteer Service Renewal FormPDF Version or online application. Every three (3) years, volunteers will need to complete the Background Check.
